Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What are your Community Outreach projects?

A: Christ Church School students participate in local, national, and international outreach projects. Outreach projects have included:

- collecting treats and making cards for US troops overseas

- gathering supplies and donations for an orphanage in Haiti

- rounding up pajamas and socks for a local crisis nursery

- supplying funding for and packing food at Feed My Starving Children in Mesa

- donating school supplies and funds for schools hit hard by hurricanes

Q: Are scholarships available?

A: Due to generous tax-credit donations made to the Arizona Episcopal Schools Foundation (AESF) and the Arizona Christian School Tuition Organization (ACSTO) by CCS friends, families and Christ Church of the Ascension members, scholarship monies are available for students who attend elementary classes at Christ Church School. Awards made by these entities can only be used to pay for tuition for students currently enrolled in grades K-12 at a private Christian school (or at least planning to attend K-12 in the semester following the award process).

Q: What is your discipline policy?

A: In any environment where students care about each other and are encouraged to talk and work together, discipline is generally not a problem. All teachers work with the Head of School to handle discipline in a positive and preventative manner. We support positive reinforcement, active listening, parental involvement, and redirection of inappropriate behavior that might prove harmful to the student, his/her peers, or any adult in the classroom. We may also use time-out methods. If a student has excessive difficulty adjusting to the classroom situation or should a behavior problem arise anytime during the school year, the teachers, working with the Head of School, will request a special conference with the parents. Disciplinary action by the School can include dismissal from the program.

Q: How long is the school day?

A: Twos and Threes preschool classes meet from 9 am to noon on their scheduled days. Pre-K classes meet from 9 am to 1:15 pm, and Junior Kindergarten classes meet from 8:15 am to 1:15 pm.  Elementary school classes meet from 8:15 am to 3:00 pm.

Q: Do you have before and after school programs?

A: We offer a wide variety of before and after school expanded learning opportunities throughout the year that focus on physical fitness, character, and skill-building. Classes are scheduled by session and there are three sessions per year. Creative class options cater to every student's interests and schedule.

Extended Options

Q: Does CCS serve snacks?

A: Christ Church School puts out a monthly Preschool snack calendar based on licensing standards. Parents are asked to sign up to provide the scheduled snacks for their child's classroom. Elementary students are responsible for providing their own healthy snacks each day.

Q: How does the CCS Lunch Program work?

A: Christ Church School lunch options are outlined below.

  • Packed Lunches - If your student is bringing a packed lunch to school, please drop it off in your student’s classroom in the morning. Make sure your student's name is on the lunch box/lunch sack. Lunches will not be refrigerated so please plan accordingly; be sure the lunch includes an ice pack, if needed.

  • Lunch Lady Delivers - Students may sign up for the Lunch Lady Delivers lunch program. Parents select and pay for lunches online and the orders are delivered to the classroom on the appropriate day. Orders must be placed by noon on the Sunday prior to the delivery week. Lunch Lady Delivers is not available on a drop-in basis.

Q: My child has food allergies. How do you handle this?

A: While Christ Church School implements sound safety practices regarding food-related allergies on a case-by-case basis, we cannot guarantee an allergen-free environment. Our goal, then, is to implement precautions necessary to protect students who have life-threatening allergies. Our allergy protocol relies on the parents of the affected children to be proactive and vigilant and on the other members of the CCS community to comply with our allergy policies. You may opt to provide your own snacks and lunches for your child.

Q: How are illnesses handled?

A: Runny noses, colds, and childhood ailments are very common in any school environment. Our responsibility is to prevent the spread of illness by teaching sanitary procedures, such as hand washing and tissues for noses. If a child is not feeling well, they are cared for in the school office and parents are notified immediately. Parents are advised to keep a student at home during the highly infectious first stages of a cold or other communicable disease. A student must be free of fever, diarrhea, and vomiting for 24 hours after their symptoms are gone, before returning to class.

Q: Is your campus safe?

A: Christ Church School makes safety a priority and takes security very seriously.

The entire school holds regular drills to ensure the safety of our students and staff. There are procedures in place for fire, shelter-in-place, and evacuation drills. Through the practice of these drills, students are trained to follow these procedures without panic or undue interruption to the learning environment. In a real emergency, parents will be contacted via the SchoolMessenger system.
